A workshop for long-term care leadership teams

Leading on
Empty

Your team is not failing. They are depleted, biologically and behaviourally, and the two are connected in ways most leadership training never touches.

The part nobody names

Most burnout work treats half a leader.

A leadership team running thin gets handed one fix at a time. Resilience training for the mindset. A boundaries framework for the calendar. A wellness webinar for the body. Each one addresses a single half of a leader who is running down on both sides at once.

So the fix works for two weeks, and then the pattern returns. Not because the leader lacked the will. Because the intervention only ever touched one system, and the other kept draining underneath it.

The skipped meals and the caffeine that replaces them. The over-functioning that feels like dedication. The boundary that never gets set because saying no costs more than it should.

Depletion in long-term care is two systems failing together. The behavioural patterns that quietly drain authority, and the biological gaps that quietly compound them. Work one without the other and your strongest leaders stay exactly where they are: still capable, still showing up, and still on empty.

Behavioural

What drains capacity
  • Always on, can't detach
  • Over-functioning
  • Triggered by others
  • Boundary guilt
  • People-pleasing
  • Growing resentment

Biological

What empties the tank
  • Skipping fuel
  • Caffeine reliance
  • Energy crashes
  • Decision fatigue
  • Stress eating or under-eating
  • Ignored body signals
Two halves of the same depleted leader. This workshop works on both, in the same room, on the same day.
What it is

A full day, co-led, built for the work your team actually returns to on Monday.

Leading on Empty is led by two practitioners who each carry one half of the problem. Heidi Taylor works the behavioural side through the Skillful Workplace Relationships Triangle, with the Enneagram as the diagnostic underneath it. Alyssa Morra works the biological side, the fuel and capacity that chronic pressure quietly strips out of the body.

2.5 hrs

Fueling Capacity

Alyssa's nutrition session, built on the Nourish to Heal framework. Not "manage your stress better." The real biological gaps left by skipped meals, caffeine dependence, and decision fatigue, with simple fuelling tools leaders can use on a chaotic day.

2 to 2.5 hours

The Skillful Workplace Relationships Triangle

Heidi's interactive training, after lunch, using the Enneagram so each leader can see exactly where they sit in the triangle: where they over-function, where they disengage, and where their blind spots are quietly costing them energy and authority.

Live, in the room

Real LTC scenarios

Staff entitlement. Boundary violations. Accountability displacement. The situations your team will face the following week, practised through the framework in real time, not in the abstract.

What leaders walk out able to do

Clarity first. Tools that hold because the leader can finally see the pattern.

Name where they sit in the Skillful Workplace Relationships Triangle, and what that costs them with staff, managers, and colleagues.

See the behavioural patterns draining their capacity, and the biological gaps quietly compounding them.

Hold the line between caring for staff and keeping their authority, without the guilt that usually arrives with it.

Use self-regulation tools when a demand or a difficult staff behaviour sets off a stress response.

Fuel the physical and emotional capacity the role actually asks of them, on the days that ask the most.

A note on how this is delivered

This is the deliberate exception.

Most of my work is built one organization at a time, customised to the team in front of me. Leading on Empty is fixed on purpose. The pairing only works as a designed whole. The biological and behavioural halves have to land in the same room, on the same day, or each one leaks back into the gap the other leaves. It is delivered in-house, to a single leadership team, so the scenarios are yours and the conversation stays honest. The weight your leaders carry is real. This is a day built to set some of it down.

Who leads it
Heidi Taylor

With a social work background and certifications in the Enneagram and Gallup Strengths, she works the behavioural drivers of reactivity, resentment, and burnout, and the patterns that show up under pressure.

Alyssa Morra
Executive Nutrition Consultant

A nutrition and performance strategist who works the biological side of capacity. Through the Nourish to Heal framework, she addresses the fuel, recovery, and physical regulation that chronic pressure quietly depletes, with tools built for demanding, unpredictable days.
